The W Hotel

Bienvenido a Barcelona! Global Gossip Girl here. The W hotel is easily one of the most recognizable buildings in the city. Located on its own little peninsula, resides the unique sail-shaped building that loosely resembles the Burj al-Arab Hotel in Dubai. The W hotel in Barcelona is hyped up as one of the hottest W hotels in the world. Let’s see if it lives up to its reputation!

The Room

The view from the room definitely doesn’t disappoint. The hotel itself seems to attract a younger and very adventurous crowd. But then again, a lot of people coming to Barcelona to begin with, are there for the adventure and parties. The lobby is chic with a very modern feel and they even have hanging hammock chairs! I had requested that something special be waiting in the room since we were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday. Inside waiting for him were balloons, a birthday dessert, and a bottle of Spanish Cava. Very sweet!

Floor to ceiling windows!

The room was beautiful, modern, and clean. The focal point of the room was the large, red bed in the center facing the huge floor to ceiling windows. There were mildly scandalous pillows adorning the bed, giving a very sexy vibe to the room. The only part of the room that I didn’t love was the bathroom. There really wasn’t one. The restroom was in the back of the room in a sort of frosted glass stall. The shower was a similar situation. It had it’s own designated corner of the room, but I would have preferred it to have been in a separate room separated by a real door. It didn’t offer a lot of privacy. Other than that, the room was very comfortable, and waking up to that view never got old!

Hotel Restaurants

The restaurants in the hotel were great, but in general, people in Barcelona eat much later than we do here in America. Often, an early dinner in Barcelona would be at 7:30, with most people eating around 10pm. The room service was top notch! We probably did that a little more than I’d honestly like to admit.

Gym and Spa

This part of the hotel was very impressive. The gym is beautifully equipped with every kind of machine, weight, and exercise band or ball you can think of. There is a relaxation area called “Getaway”, where you can relax in the large indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, or lounge area. It’s the perfect place to recover after an intense workout, long flight, or debaucherous evening. There were beautiful pools and beach areas outdoors but unfortunately, it was too cold while we were there to take advantage of.

The Bliss Spa comes equipped with a full nail salon as well as a full-service menu of treatments to choose from. I did a regular 60-minute massage before my flight home, and it made the long flight so much more manageable. Highly recommend!

There is a cocktail bar/small nightclub at the top of the hotel called Eclipse. If you’ve been to any other W hotel (especially the one in NYC) it’s very similar. When we went, it was so incredibly crowded you could barely move. The drinks were good but truthfully, it was too hectic to stay long. We got one drink there and quickly headed to Opium nightclub for the remainder of the evening. I would have loved to have checked it out when it was a little less crowded!

Overall, this hotel was beautiful, and the perfect stay for an adventurous, debaucherous, weekend of Barcelona’s culture and nightlife. If you’d prefer something more low-key but still high end, I’d recommend Hotel Arts.
